This human resources training is designed for library staff and supervisors to strengthen skills across key stages of the employee lifecycle, from an employee’s first experience with an organization to their departure. Participants will explore good practices in structured interviewing and fair, consistent candidate evaluation. The training will also address respectful and legally compliant procedures for employee separation, including clear documentation, effective communication strategies, meaningful exit interviews, and thoughtful approaches to saying goodbye that support both organizational integrity and staff well-being. While not designed to be a comprehensive training in staff onboarding and offboarding, this session will address tangible strategies and questions to ask at particular stages in an employee’s journey with an organization.
Supervisors and staff from all types of institutions—museums, archives, academic libraries, public libraries, and more—are welcome to join. The session will NOT be recorded, though all slides and handouts will be made available to registrants. Ample time will be provided for Q&A, and feel free to submit your questions for the presenter in advance via the registration form. This is the third in a series, sponsored by the Empire State Library Network, on select human resources topics. Please email amy@nnyln.org with questions.
