Have books in your library with broken spines, pages falling out, or covers in need of repair? Want to learn how to make these book repairs yourself, or ask volunteers to assist with book mending?

If so, join us for a hands-on workshop, led by Tom Lawrence, retired librarian and Volunteer Archivist for the Diocese of Ogdensburg. Open to all organizational staff and volunteers.

The session will describe the basic parts of a book and how to care and repair them with a simple list of resources and tools easily acquired on a minimal budget. A few examples of repair will be demonstrated. Bring a book you want to repair and let’s see what we can do with it!

The workshop will be hosted in three different locations, to provide greater accessibility to the training. Please note that each workshop is capped at a certain number of participants, though a short waiting list will be created for each location. Please register for only one workshop.

  • April 6, 10am-3:00pm at North Country Library System, Watertown, NY (open to 20 participants)
  • April 22, 10am-3:00pm at Tupper Lake Public Library (Goff-Nelson Memorial Library), Tupper Lake, NY (open to 15 participants)
  • April 27, 10am-3:00pm at the Northern NY Library Network, Potsdam, NY (open to 15 participants)

Lunch and most materials will be provided. Attendees should bring a book they want to repair.

Organized by Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System, North Country Library System, and Northern NY Library Network.
