Where: John Brown Farm State Historic Site, 115 John Brown Rd, Lake Placid, NY
NNYLN members and fellow colleagues are invited to join us for a summer meet-up at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site, made possible by our friends from John Brown Lives!. With special guest Sandra Weber, author of John Brown in New York, we’ll learn the history of the abolitionist’s farm and explore “Dreaming of Timbuctoo,” an exhibit that tells the story of a radical plan in the mid-1800s to give 120,000 acres of Adirondack land to 3,000 Black New Yorkers.
We’ll also be introduced to the new traveling portrait exhibit, Americans Who Tell the Truth, a collaboration between John Brown Lives! and Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System. Over lunch, we’ll discuss even more ideas and resources for collaboration (!), and conclude with opportunities to explore the garden, walk the site, or perhaps even engage in a little plein air painting.
