Join us during National Library Week for a free screening of IndieLens Pop-Up’s documentary: The Librarians—presented by WPBS in partnership with Mountain Lake PBS, Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System (CEFLS), North Country Library System (NCLS), the Northern New York Library Network, John Brown Lives!, and NYSED.

If you live in the North Country, a screening is happening near you.

FILM DESCRIPTION: When Texas lawmakers seek to review a list of books, librarians find themselves on the frontlines of a national battle. Across the U.S., librarians face the impact of uniting against library collection standards that include restrictions on race-related and LGBTQIA+ content. Drawing on historical context, The Librarians explores the broader implications for education and public life.

Enjoy a companion reading list from NCLS and a guide on banned books from CEFLS!

The event will take place Thursday, April 23 at 6:00 pm at The Strand Theater in both Watertown and Plattsburgh, NY, with libraries throughout Northern NY hosting simultaneous watch parties (see list of locations below). Following the in-person screenings, NCLS and CEFLS will lead panel discussions.

Admission is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
