The Community Outreach Librarian is an experienced professional responsible for cultivating strategic partnerships through community outreach activities.  This position develops relationships with businesses, nonprofit organizations, individuals, schools and other community organizations that would benefit from library services and programs.  Plattsburgh Public Library serves as both the city library and the Central Library for the Clinton Essex Franklin Library System.  Reports to Library Director.

  • Leads development of outreach programs and services with an emphasis on millennials
  • Identifies outreach opportunities and develops appropriate response
  • Represents library at civic group meetings
  • Develops strategic relationships within the community
  • Develops press releases, brochures and other marketing materials in digital and print
  • Librarian role may also include attending workshops, and civic groups, as well as conducting informational presentations on behalf of the library
  • Project management and event coordination to promote library services and resources
  • Develop and maintain website, oversee mass mailings, and manage physical aspects of the work environment such as the computer lab and new maker space/meeting room
  • Develop, design and evaluate new programs
  • Works with other staff members to implement outreach programs and services
  • Develops and coordinates a program providing community outreach services designed to build awareness, interest, and participation in the library
  • Flexibility in scheduling, evening and weekend work required
  • Travel within the Clinton, Essex, Franklin county area is required

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to get along with others and work as a team
  • Planning and goal setting skills are required
  • Decision making, problem solving and or recommendations within scope of position responsibilities
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and at locations outside of the library
  • Ability to build and maintain good relations with community partners and stakeholders including millennials
  • Strong technology background and eagerness to introduce new technologies to the community
  • Experience developing and disseminating  marketing materials
  • Experience using social media for marketing
  • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university
  • New York State Public Librarian Certificate
  • One year professional experience working in a public library preferred

This is a full time (35 hours) hourly, union position with excellent benefits.
Salary: Librarian I $22.17 per hour/Librarian II $24.07 per hour
