Description: Practical RDA: an introduction is designed for copy catalogers or anyone who does some cataloging work and would like to learn about RDA and how it affects them. Attendees will be able to identify the changes from AACR2 to RDA, and be better able to apply RDA principles in cataloging.
Presenter: Denise A. Garofalo is the Associate Librarian for Systems and Catalog Services at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, NY. Prior to joining the Mount, Denise served as Library Director at the Astor Home for Children, and held various technology positions at the Mid-Hudson Library System.
Before returning to New York State, Denise was the Automation Consultant and ran a cataloging center at the New Hampshire State Library, was Head of Technical Services and Automated Services at the Warwick Public Library, and was a Librarian at the Pawtucket Public Library where she did cataloging and provided readers advisory services. She held positions in Technical Services at the Libraries at the State University of New York at Albany, and worked after-school and summers at the Perry Browne Elementary School Library in Norwich, NY.
Denise has consulted with libraries on technology, cataloging, and digitization projects, and served as an adjunct professor at the Department of Information Studies at the State University of New York at Albany, teaching cataloging and information technology courses.
