What exactly is an instructional video? An instructional video is “any video that demonstrates a process, transfers knowledge, explains a concept, or shows someone how to do something” (Simon, 2020) They can literally be about anything, and anyone can make them.

In this 2-part program, we will learn how to make our own instructional videos. Instructional videos are a great way to relay information, however, the process can seem intimidating and be time-consuming. Together, we will learn about creating effective instructional videos using free and low-cost tools. The session presenter, Dr. Baker, is an instructional design expert who has provided detailed videos on the basics of production including the design process, software, equipment, and resources.

Part 1 (12/1): Let’s learn! We’ll screen videos from Dr. Baker and review a resources toolkit for attendees utilize in their own video creation.

Part 2 (12/17): Let’s see! We’ll show off our homemade instructional videos with Dr. Baker who will be present to answer any and all questions on the instructional video-making process.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn the process of creating instructional videos
  • Learn about some free or affordable tools to create videos
  • Participate in video creation

Attendees will need to have access to a computer and/or video recording device. They must also be able to download applications or software onto their computer to use to create their video. This program does not provide technical support but a space for the learning process of instructional video creation.
