We invite applications for our Regional Services Librarian, a full-time (35 hrs/week) position responsible for coordinating and facilitating the Network’s programs for professional development, communications, resource sharing, and digitization of research resources.

About the position: The successful candidate will be a good writer who likes to help people, who can design member-centered services and motivate participation from cultural institutions across the North Country. They will lead trainings, promote and troubleshoot services across multiple channels of communication, organize meetings, schedule speakers, assist with the development of digital collections, and build strong relationships within the region. They must keep abreast of current practice in the profession and emerging priorities of members through reading, networking with colleagues, and attending workshops and conferences. They will assess how services make a difference to the Network’s members, and problem-solve using research, member engagement, and creativity to make improvements. The position covers a wide range of activities, requiring a great deal of independent planning and follow through. While the work includes a variety of duties, the workload is deliberately crafted as 1 FTE. The Network is committed to a healthy workplace with manageable workloads and the necessary resources and autonomy to perform all duties.

Requirements: The successful candidate must hold an MLS from an ALA-accredited program, and have three or more full years of professional library experience (post-MLS). Experience in academic libraries and/or special collections is preferred.

About the Network:  The Northern New York Library Network is a multi-type library cooperative covering the seven counties on the northern border of New York.  Its members include all types of libraries, including library systems, academic, public, and special libraries. Its service area is 10,636 square miles with a population of 534,112. The Network provides members with a wide array of services, including New York State Historic Newspapers, New York Heritage, DueNorth resource sharing, continuing education programs, grant opportunities, and the region’s medical information program.

The Network’s office is located in Potsdam, NY, in the heart of the North Country, where proximity to universities (four in the Canton-Potsdam area), Adirondack Park, the 1000 Islands, and Canada creates a vibrant blend of outdoor activities, safe and affordable communities, and easy access to the advantages of larger cities. Residence within the Network’s seven-county service area is required but a schedule of predominantly remote work could be considered for the right candidate.

Compensation:  The beginning salary range is $58,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Network offers an excellent benefits package including a 12% TIAA contribution, 22 vacation days, 5 personal days, 12 sick days, health, disability, and dental insurance (100% of premium paid for employee, 50% paid for dependents).
