Vacancies: The eligible list will be used to fill a vacancy at the Fulton Public Library.
Duties of Position: As a Library Director I, you will act as head of a library and be responsible for recommending library services and evaluating their effectiveness; administering the personnel and public relations program; supervising the expenditure of library funds and the maintenance of library buildings and grounds. Typical tasks include selecting of books and materials; performing reference services; compiling book lists and bibliographies; cataloging and classifying; and attending professional meetings. The incumbent will perform related work as required.
Residence Requirement: There is no residency requirement for filing an application for this position. However, preference in appointment may be given to candidates that have been legal residents of the City of Fulton for one month prior to filing date.
Minimum Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Librarianship (MLS) from a library school that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department; and (3) three years of professional library experience, (1) of which includes supervisory/administrative work experience.
Special Requirement: Eligibility for a New York State Public Librarian’s professional certificate at time of application. Possession of certificate at time of appointment.
Scope of Examination: There will be no written or oral test for this examination. If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will receive a rating based upon an evaluation of your training and experience against the duties of the position being tested.
Candidates must first complete an examination application and return it to the City of Fulton Personnel Office on or before the last filing date of August 17, 2018.
Approved candidates will be sent a notice containing directions to a website address needed to complete a Training and Experience Questionnaire.
The Training and Experience Questionnaire will be available on September 1, 2018, and approved candidates will be required to complete and submit this questionnaire between September 1, 2018, and midnight, September 30, 2018. NOTE: Candidates will not be able to claim any credit for training or experience gained after the application filing deadline of August 17, 2018.
Candidates who fail to submit a questionnaire by midnight, September 30, 2018, will not receive a rating.
Veteran’s Credits: Active service members, veterans or disabled veterans desiring to claim additional credit should submit Veteran’s Credit form prior to the establishment of the eligible list. Forms are available upon request at the Personnel/Civil Service Office.
Fee: A non-refundable fee of $15.00 is required for each separately numbered examination for which you apply. The required fee must accompany your application. Send check or money order payable to the CITY OF FULTON. DO NOT SEND CASH. You are urged to compare your qualifications carefully with the required minimum qualifications, as no refunds will be made to candidates who are disqualified.
