The NYS Historic Newspapers project hosts 7.5 million pages of historic newspapers from 520+ titles from every county in New York state. This massive endeavor consumes more than 30 terabytes of storage as every new title added requires more space. To keep up with the more than a million pages added every year we’re upgrading our storage technology platform to provide easy and quick expanding storage. Unfortunately, this will cause the very popular newspaper site to be offline while the upgrades to the software and hardware are completed.
The initial stages of the storage upgrade are complete! However, we are currently moving every page from the previous storage device to the new device. While this is happening it is likely that visitors will experience more “busy server messages” and slower image downloads. Thanks for your patience!
