The Rochester (New York) Regional Library Council (RRLC) Board of Trustees is in search of a dynamic leader with vision, imagination and enthusiasm to serve as Executive Director.  The successful candidate will be able to build alliances, foster networking and collaboration among various types of libraries, and will promote understanding of the crucial roles libraries play in today’s world. In addition, the Executive Director must demonstrate an ability to advocate and negotiate on behalf of member libraries; demonstrate a commitment to understanding and communicating emerging issues in the library and information field; respond promptly and plan strategically to meet the changing needs of the membership; show proven success working with and reporting to a governing board; and maintain a successful record of human resource administration, fiscal management, and member services administration for RRLC.

RRLC is a multi-type library network serving libraries and library systems in the five-county Rochester , NY region – Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne and Wyoming counties.  Members include all types of libraries: academic, public, school (K-12), corporate, non-profit, and medical. RRLC is a member of the Empire State Library Network, which is comprised of the nine regional library councils in the state of New York.

The guiding principle of RRLC is Innovation through Collaboration.  RRLC enables libraries to better serve their users through dynamic programs, innovative collaborations and shared resources. It serves as a forum for the unified representation of library interests and helps members achieve together what could not be achieved separately.  The Council is especially well-known and well respected for its continuing education series of more than 100 professional development opportunities a year.

The Executive Director oversees an annual budget of approximately $1,000,000 and a staff of 2 full time and 4 part time positions.  The starting salary range is $85,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.  RRLC offers an excellent benefits package including TIAA retirement, health and dental insurance.

The successful candidate must hold an MLS from an ALA-accredited program, and have eight or more full years of professional library experience (post-MLS), at least two years of which shall have been in an administrative capacity, and the ability to obtain a New York State public librarian’s professional certificate  which certifies an accredited graduate library degree and requires 60 hours of professional development every 5 years.

Rochester is located in upstate New York on the shores of Lake Ontario and is considered part of the state’s Finger Lakes region, famous for its scenery and its wineries. The third largest city in New York State, the greater Rochester region is inhabited by a little more than one million people.
